With one glance inside the restaurant you’ll quickly discover that we aren’t your typical seafood restaurant at all. Of course, we offer amazing food, but that’s just one of the reasons why we stand out.
CREATIVE DISHES
San Diego chef JoJo Ruiz infuses every Lionfish dish with innovative twists. Chef Ruiz’s creativity and innovation is behind some of our most popular dishes that surprise and delight. For instance, our Spicy Grilled Octopus is a popular choice. Served with fermented chile, crispy garlic, crispy potatoes, and cilantro aioli, it’s a dish that you won’t find anywhere else. Or try our Half-Roasted Mary’s Chicken, served with black trumpet sauce, salsify, black garlic, and swiss chard. We even do salads just a little bit differently – our Kale Salad includes carrot, sesame seed, hen egg, parmesan, avocado, pickled shallots, and tahini dressing.
Chef Ruiz is a master of blending flavors together to create dishes that are comprehensive, creative, and just a little bit surprising.
OCEAN-FRIENDLY DESIGNATION
Lionfish has earned the “Ocean Friendly Restaurant” designation from the Surfrider Foundation, and we’re proud of it. Restaurants that earn this designation must meet strict sustainability standards when it comes to materials and packaging. These sustainability efforts help to keep the oceans clean, and of course we’re happy to meet these standards because the oceans give us so much, too.

We’re dedicated to bringing you the freshest ingredients at Lionfish. Because Chef Ruiz studied under Michelin star and celebrity chefs, he’s developed a network of fishermen and produce growers who we rely on to supply us with the freshest, best quality ingredients.
Because we use so many seasonal ingredients, our menu changes frequently, allowing us to bring you new dishes and endless variety.
OUR ROOFTOP SEATING
Is there anything better than dining outside in sweet California weather under the stars? We don’t think so, and that’s why we’ve revamped our rooftop to create an ideal rooftop dining experience. Charming lights create a beautiful setting, and we have some of the best views of San Diego that you’ll find. We’ve also added new décor and seating options.
Our rooftop dining opens in late April and is available Monday through Saturday starting at 5 pm. We offer full dinners as well as our Happy Hour deals on our rooftop patio. Just imagine relaxing with your family or friends, sipping a glass of wine and enjoying some delicious seafood under the San Diego stars. With a stunning atmosphere, it’s no wonder that our rooftop dining is such a popular option.
OUR AMAZING HAPPY HOUR DEALS
If you’re looking for some great deals on amazing seafood, then you’ll need to take a look at our Happy Hour Menu. We offer a daily Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm, and during that time you can get hot and cold plates for just $9 each, hand rolls for just $8, and a selection of wines for $8.
Our most popular Happy Hour deal, though, is our $1 oysters. Our Kumiai Baja Oysters are served with house made mignonette, and at just $1 each, they’re the perfect way to start off a meal.
For an early dinner, our Happy Hour deals will save you money while still giving you a great selection of delicious plates to choose from.
HAND-CRAFTED COCKTAILS
The perfect cocktail can complete any meal, and that’s why we offer a great selection of flavorful cocktails at Lionfish. Many cocktails are included in our Happy Hour specials, and these innovative drinks are sure to delight. Plus, their memorable names make it easy for you to order your favorite drink again in the future.
If you’re feeling adventurous, our Hot in Jalisco cocktail packs a serious punch. Habanero Infused Don Julio Blanco is paired with grenadine, grapefruit, and lime for an intriguing blend of flavors.
For something a little tamer, try our Guardian Angel. Angel’s Envy Bourbon is beautifully complemented by Cocchi Rosa, ginger, pomegranate, and lemon.
Our Blueberry Hill cocktail is another great option, especially if you’ need a boost of energy to get you back up on your feet. This cocktail features Tanqueray 10, St.-Germain, crème de violette, lime, mint, and Blueberry Red Bull.
