Tasty Bites From the Sushi Bar

Tasty Bites From the Sushi Bar

If you’re visiting San Diego, or just looking for a new spot, you’ve probably thought to yourself, where can I get some quality San Diego sushi? Well, if you haven’t been to Lionfish Coastal Cuisine yet, then you’re in for a treat. From our Nigiri Flights, to our Sushi and Sashimi selections, and our Specialty Rolls, we’ve got so much ground to cover when it comes to our sushi offerings. Let’s do a quick sampler and run through one of each category so you can see what we’ve got. And then you can head on over to our full menu page, to see what else will reel you in!

Specialty Nigiri Flights

This type of sushi gets its name from how it is made. Nigiri means “to grasp,” and references the way the rice is pressed into shape by hand. That rice is then topped with a variety of toppings – often fish.

We’re not saying that our Big Eye Tuna is the star of the show, but it’s quite popular, and for good reason! Let’s break it down for you.

Big Eye Tuna – Truffle dijon, marinated mushroom, seared beef fat, smoked salt, red kosho yuzu.

If that’s not getting your mouth watering, then let’s move onto our Sushi and Sashimi. We promise your curiosity will get the best of you, and you’ll want to try a little bit of everything after hearing about this.

Sushi and Sashimi

Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy consisting of fresh raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces and often eaten with soy sauce.

King Salmon – New Zealand – The comparison of king salmon with a farm-raised one like Atlantic salmon is easy: While both have a similar size, king salmon has much more flavor and a firmer, less oily consistency. But it is much more interesting to compare king salmon to another wild salmon species, such as sockeye.

Kampachi – Baja – Kanpachi is a popular fish served at sushi restaurants and izakaya. It’s a close cousin of hamachi, and confusingly, both are sometimes called yellowtail. The texture and flavor of each are slightly different, however.

Specialty Rolls

If you’re just looking for some sushi rolls, then look no further than Lionfish. Lionfish is synonymous with San Diego Sushi, and our rolls are second to none. Let’s check it out.

Surf and Turf – Seared wagyu, avocado, Maine lobster, grilled asparagus, garlic ponzu, crispy shallots

The Baller Roll – Lump rab, big eye tuna, avocado, shiso, truffle aioli, whisky barrel age ponzu, chive, caviar.

If all of the above sounds mouth wateringly delicious, then you owe it to yourself to take a trip to Lionfish Coastal Cuisine! See you Soon!
